Statewide Medical Director for the California Department of State Hospitals
Dr. Katherine Warburton serves as the Statewide Medical Director for the California Department of State Hospitals, overseeing clinical care in the largest forensic inpatient system in the United States. In addition, she is a Special Advisor to the California Health and Human Services Agency, contributing to its Behavioral Health Transformation initiative. Dr. Warburton is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry within the UC Davis Division of Psychiatry and the Law, as well as a faculty member at Sapienza University in Rome. She is board certified in both adult psychiatry and forensic psychiatry and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications addressing a wide range of forensic and policy-related topics. Her scholarly contributions also include three published textbooks—Violence in Psychiatry, Decriminalizing Mental Illness 和 Ethical and Clinical Complexities in the Treatment of Schizophrenia.
