October 18, 2023

On October 18, 2023 at 12pm Eastern Standard Time Xavier Amador, PhD will present a lecture in memory of Anthony Vitucci. Dr. Amador is an expert on insight in schizophrenia.

About the lecture: Poor insight in schizophrenia and other psychotic disorder is common affecting about 50% of such patients. Research on the causes and clinical impact of this symptom will be presented. Evidence indicating that poor insight is a neurocognitive symptom (anosognosia) rather than a coping strategy (e.g., denial) will be discussed. A role play will be used to experience anosognosia in persons with delusions. LEAP, an evidence based communication approach designed to engage such patients will be reviewed.
