Craig Chepke MD, FAPA
Craig Chepke, MD grew up in Charlotte, NC and attended Duke University for his undergraduate studies, with a major in chemistry. He attended NYU School of Medicine and completed his residency training at Duke University. He is a Board-Certified psychiatrist and has been named a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. His career has included work in long-term care facilities, hospital-based outpatient clinics, psychiatric and medical-psychiatry inpatient units, and he has served as medical director of an Intensive Outpatient Program and of a geriatric psychiatry unit.
Dr. Chepke founded his private practice, Excel Psychiatric Associates, with his wife Tiffany Chepke LCSW in 2012, and is also the medical director of a level 3 residential facility for troubled adolescents. He serves an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry for the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and has special interests in movement disorders, neuropsychiatric conditions, and severe-persistent/treatment-resistant mental illness. To best serve the needs of his patients, he employs the entire spectrum of pharmacological interventions from the newest leading-edge medications to older underutilized treatments, such as lithium and clozapine. He also strongly emphasizes psychotherapeutic interventions and encourages physical health and wellness through exercise, dietary modification, and supplementation.
The treatment of people with schizophrenia has always been a priority for Dr. Chepke, and he is a strong advocate of the early use of clozapine and long-acting injectable medications. He is grateful to be able to serve the greater community of people with schizophrenia and their families as a board member.
